How do you deal with constantly being told that you don’t look like a lawyer because of your appearence?

What is your biggest challenge as a plus size professional ... wardrobing? Air travel? Perception/image? Energy/stamina? Outright discrimination?

Think my team hates me lmao

I started a new job as an “office manager” at the end of January. The duties seem to align more with those of an EA, and I’m ok with that. Except my boss is a control freak. He scolds me over every little thing, how I load the dishwasher, maybe I didn’t push my chair in. Last week he told me I needed to work on my appearance. I was shocked. I bought all new clothes from Ann Taylor that are perfectly acceptable for business casual. He hates me. Move on ASAP or try to stick it out ?

At this point, I’m looking forward to telling opposing counsel in this one case that I’m leaving my firm more than telling my firm. Between the ridiculous theory of the case, the truly obnoxious discovery requests, and the self-righteous attitude, I can’t wait to never talk to this guy again.

Just had a very uncomfortable conversation with a partner. I have some time off booked to go to my brother’s wedding (I’m the best man). We were chatting and I mentioned that my brother’s future husband is so nice and really a great guy, and we already consider him a member of our family. Partner’s tone immediately shifts and as we’re ending the call he says, “Okay, enjoy the time with your family at the civil ceremony.” Like… girl you live in California, you cannot be this backward.

Is anyone else exhausted with their consulting staff thinking they’re gods? Being treated with disrespect constantly by them is so draining. How do you manage your responses to them that’s not a 30 second turnaround?

I’ve been working a Boston based commercial lender for about 9 months as a credit analyst since leaving my relationship manager/portfolio manager role in agricultural lending. I’ve been presented with a portfolio analyst role they have created for me (was told not to apply for a PM role) . The offer is for $100k, is this reasonable? Anyone feel like your job sees you as "one of the good ones?" It hasn't explicitly been said, but I'm one of the only Black attorneys at the firm and I think my white colleagues and partners see me as an example of how Black folks "should be" cause I mind my business. Basically I feel like a token, and I don't know how to shift that idea while staying professional.

I'm a younger plaintiff's side attorney (31). Does anyone else feel like white attorneys give you a particularly harder time? Like unreasonably denying clear facts, or trying to fish for a way to sanction you? Usually it's solo defense attorneys that get extreme with it, but I've seen some questionable stuff from BigLaw too. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

What was your experience with the LSAT? Do you think it's gatekeeping, preventing students who can't afford it (often people of color) from entering the field? OR is it helping future attorney's of color by giving them a chance to go to a top school regardless of grades? I've seen questions about the LSAT all day and just want to know how people feel.
