I feel like that exam is mostly a mind game. I spent 3 years studying half assed because I had it in my head that I didn’t want to be a CPA and am not good at accounting. Finally this summer, business summer of my career, I sat down and did it. Scored 88+ on all the exams and found out that I’m done this week. I was definitely anxious through the whole journey, but once you start passing them you start getting more motivation, then once you’re done all that anxiety fades. Good luck OP!
crammed with lectures and MC? did you even watch the lectures? I feel like they’re a waste of time and I don’t retain anything
I took REG right after grad school before I started and got a 73. I felt like an absolute failure. I would spend hours in my room with my book and felt like I absorbed nothing. Honestly, after working for a bit (2 years) and getting more experience under my belt I felt a lot more confident with the material and managed to pass them all in pretty quick succession once I picked it back up. Now I’ve been around for 5 years and am so glad I didn’t give up! Sounds like you’re setting yourself up for success. You CAN do it!!! Take care!
I know what you mean! It feels like such a hurdle. Don’t worry about setting a study plan before picking it back up. Be kind to yourself, especially with it being busy season. Maybe even doing as little as taking ten minutes in bed reading 5 random pages tonight will help ease the mental block of picking it back up again. (But hopefully this also won’t get you all worked up and unable to sleep-been there lol). But the main thing is lower the stakes for yourself- 5 nights of reading only five pages may have you in a better headspace than waiting a month to start with chapter one, anxiety-wise, ya know?
depression and anxiety so my motivation is nonexistent right now. any tips would be helpful!!! also struggling to balance it all because busy season is about to start.
I am in the same exact boat. Studying day in and day out for cpa made my depression worse and i kept failing. Obviously no one is happy studying for that, but when you spend each day putting forth effort to feel okay adding in stressors makes things difficult. I also take Wellbutrin (for add and depression but didn’t know it helped anxiety too). It’s tough. I haven’t passed it either. But I have considered having testing accommodations be set up by my doctor to hopefully allow some extra time since I waste a solid 20 mins biting my nails during the test LoL . Ugh. Also feel free to message me and we can vent!
The exam is purely mental and I can appreciate how hard than can be when you are suffering from anxiety and depression.
Does your therapist does cognitive behavioral therapy? I found that CBT really helps with test anxiety. You obviously have to study and be prepared but CBT helps with the anxiety and teaches you coping mechanisms for the exam.
You can do this! I promise. Don’t think about pass or fail. Just think about studying and completing the exam. Everything else is just noise.
can you guys tell me what your study schedules were during and outside of traditional busy season?
