If they’re lesbian, think all conservatives are racists and got denied from Columbia then they’ll fit right in at Barnard. Otherwise Tufts
Everyone I know from Barnard tells everyone else they’re went to Columbia, so I guess they could just do that.
I live in the Boston area and I see Tufts graduates everywhere in the industry (bio, tech, finance). Haven’t met anyone from Barnard
Sounds about right
Uhhh Barnard gals might be allowed to enroll in Columbia classes but that’s just because Columbia was an all-boys college until 1987 (and even back then Columbia men wanted nothing to do with Barnard women and would search elsewhere for girls to socialize with).
Now that Columbia actually admits more women than men I can guarantee you Barnard’s reputation has only gone down since then and if anyone from Columbia heard someone that actually got in to Barnard claiming they went to Columbia they would laugh them out of the room.
The only reason Barnard’s acceptance rate is so low is because it’s a very small school and based in nyc. Tufts is much bigger with a better brand name nationally and still has higher average ACT scores than Barnard. Tufts is the better school don’t let anyone try to convince you just because Barnard is Columbia’s sister college from 50 years ago that they even intermingle together. Columbia alums will not be doing any favors for Barnard grads and trust me I know because I’m a legacy. There’s so many cruel jokes Columbia alums make about Barnard girls and none are flattering, most have solid evidence behind them and nearly all of them would get me kicked off fishbowl.
Literally just Google “Columbia jokes about Barnard” won’t take you long to find them.
I actually went to Barnard and everything you’ve said is so far from the truth lmfao. Barnard is and always will be a part of Columbia, we have the same student life, same athletics, same graduation, literally the same robes. And nobody at Columbia actually thinks differently of Barnard students, I know because I got my job (and so did many of my friends) through networking with Columbia alumni who didn’t give a fuck that we were from Barnard). Maybe actually consider going to either school before speaking with such surety. Barnard students are part of every prestigious student org (literally considered one of Columbia’s 4 undergraduate schools) from philo to the lion fund, and it’s impossible to attend Barnard without being part of Columbia. The only people who think like you are people who have never met anyone from either school, or incels at Columbia who’s only accomplishment in life seems to be the college they were accepted to.
Pro
Barnard is great but housing is expensive. Tufts will have a more community feel. Barnard has access to Columbia undergrad classes and NYC internships. Look at cost of living, major etc.
Tufts
Tufts - better professional focus unless NYC vs Boston matters
Barnard is the better school given that it’s part of Columbia. But I know a lot of people who didn’t enjoy UG in NYC.
Barnard grads get a Columbia degree, believe it or not. I would go to Barnard (Columbia grad here).

Yeah there’s definitely a lot of tension in the relationship 😂
Rising Star
I'd choose Barnard, though I'm also partial to NYC. If I was a straight woman instead of the straight man that I am I wouldn't like the gender segregation but I'm assuming it's easy enough for women at Barnard to meet guys. Seems like Barnard has a stronger overall reputation too plus you get access to the rest of the resources at Columbia.
Definitely Tufts. Barnard is really just for girls who wanted to go to Columbia but couldn’t. If the person wants to go to school in New York, there are scads of better, more respectable options.
Yeah. . . Tufts is in Medford, which isn’t exactly cheap but also isn’t very charming.
Are they only considering those two schools? College admissions is an absolute train wreck right now. Many top kids are applying to 15+ schools to mitigate random rejections/wait lists. Also apply very early.
I am sorry to hear that. We are experiencing something very similar. Five rejections today, many WLs and a few acceptances. Just an insane year - way worse than last year. FWIW - I would say Tufts. I visited the campus a few years ago and thought it was very nice...and safe. Also had a direct report who did his undergrad at Tufts and had little trouble getting into GSB at UChicago.
