FYI, My therapist just pointed out I’ve been doing the breathing thing all wrong. Apparently you’re supposed to make sure the air gets down into the bottom of your lungs and the way to tell is if your stomach goes out when you INHALE, then flattens when you exhale. I’ve been doing the opposite for years and wondering why breathing never calmed me down. So wanted to drop that one here in case anyone else needed the same tip!
When I have trouble falling asleep, aka every night, I close my eyes and take deep slow but comfortable breaths, and I count each breath starting with one. Breathing out is two, the next breath in is three, et cetera. Anytime I get distracted or my mind wanders or I lose count, I start back at one.
Doing this gets me to sleep faster than any other meditation or breath control tactic I’ve ever tried. Not saying it’s instant, but makes a very significant difference for me.

I recently for Anthony Serino’s collection of hypnosis recordings, I occasionally join a free weekly breathwork zoom session by Sylvia something, listen to binaural beats and try various guided meditation podcasts and you tube videos.
I’m a big fan of guided meditations or podcasts in general. I can’t sleep when it’s quiet. Ever since I was a kid I listened to talk radio every night.
