What would you do if your boss encouraged your direct reports to come to him when they had concerns, instead of asking that your direct reports approach you with their concerns first?

You and ur boss same gender?

If ur direct reportees are reaching ur boss on day to day issues then they have communication issue or comfort gap with you.. honestly look at scenario by scenario and have conversation with ur team.. if they all gang up on ya gender might be huge factor too.. we underestimate those deep rooted biases

It could not be personal & he was just having a “my door is always open” moment to build trust. Assume good intentions but check him hard and let him know that even in the best case he disempowered you to gain a couple brownie points and that’s not cool

My boss told me a few weeks after it happened. One of my direct reports told me that my boss contacted them and asked about me. This individual could confirm that one had approached my boss.
It sounds like my boss is fishing for information.

If they’re concerns about you then no issue; otherwise, issue.

These people are all Gen X and older.

I had this happen, but didn’t know that he had said it. Went on for over a year.

He was later “fired”. He was having an affair with a coworker (he was married with a kid). The former employee whom he told to come to him eventually left the company, then sued the company and him for discrimination and harassment. There was an investigation and prior attempts to “rehabilitate” him. He was escorted off the premises by security when everything finally concluded.

This was not at EY.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. She seems like a nice person but i have 0 positive work feedback tbh

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth.
