Sure do. 24 years in business here is what I do. Get them talking about themselves. Where are they from, interests and how did they decide to get into accounting. Listen intently but not creepy. People in this business I have found LOVE to talk about themselves especially the higher the level. As a senior director I prefer to listen rather than talk. Much more interesting and it is easier for me. I am an introvert who forces myself to be an extrovert in those situations and with prospects.
Fake it till you make it.
Ask them if they love cats (dogs/food/weird things you loke). Best case scenario is that you make a new friend. Worst case is that they think you’re weirdo, but it’s ok because who cares 😬
Yes. Ask them about themselves etc. I do find that I'm exhausted after large social events. I'm an extroverted introvert. It takes me a few days to recover mentally from large social events. Go for an hour or two, have a few conversations and then go home. At least you are showing up if only briefly.
Get outside of your brain and interact. Read your audience. Mirror and match. Stop thinking about yourself and your ego. Be interesting. Talk about whatever the other person is talking about or ask questions, let them tell you more, and find interest in it.
