You’re not alone guys! I fell into a deep depression when I was studying for the cpa exam and it got so bad that I ended up in the hospital for having suicidal thoughts at one point. Do not let it get there for you too. Get help from a therapist and be honest. They can help you come up with coping skills that work for you. For example, one of my coping skills while studying was to make plans with a friend one night per week. It helped me have something to look forward to and not feel so alone
I would definitely recommend seeing a therapist, I’ve done so in the past and it’s been helpful and am looking to start again because I’m in a similar spot as you. They may tell you things you already know, but they can help you formulate plans to figure out how to do those things. You’re not alone!
How do you all avoid constant burnout? I am concerned that it is more than burnout, and may be signs of depression. I want to go talk to a therapist but I just feel like they might tell me what I already know: to get more sleep. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Me too :( I'm crying so much for no reason. The stress is getting to me. I used to never cry, and now I randomly burst out crying at odd times.
If you wanna connect outside FB, I'm willing. It might help to be with someone who can relate.
I love seeing all these “you’re not alone” messages. I too am like that. I felt like I had a butterfly fluttering my chest for WEEKS I had tons of medical tests done just to have the conclusion it’s a by product of my own anxiety! I often find myself so overwhelmed I don’t even know where to start with everything on my work plate and personal life. The best piece of advice I got was regardless of how busy you are when you start feeling that way to go take a little break and sit and have some tea or take a mini nap or go for a walk to relax and decimpress and regain composure and that has helped
Me a lot
You are not alone. I just had the worst busy season of my career and cried multiple times because I just couldn’t handle the continuous weeks in excess of 100 hours. Honestly there is no single answer beyond recognizing that you come first so do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel whole. You always come first.
There's stuff you can do guys - acupuncture, meditation, herbal remedies that'll keep the symptoms in check. I've had my own reasons to try all of them over the last couple of years, and boy do all of those things help!
Look up any of those options for the city you're in. I'm in NYC, and I can provide references if you need them.
Ey1: how do you prevent yourself from isolating? I feel like with work and studying, I am constantly by myself or with coworkers. My sched doesn't align with my friends sched at all...
During my first busy season, I had issues at home and was super stressed out...I found the EAP through life works very helpful! They gave me five counseling sessions that helped me get through my first busy season/issues at home. You're not alone and there's options. I've also known people take sabbatical to study for the CPA, so consider doing that too! One day at a time!
Been there too. Try free “ 21-day meditation experience “ offered several times a year . Download from App Store and then register. It helps. App originally started by Oprah.
