I tried to avoid diagnosing myself from TikTok videos, but I keep seeing all the stuff about having high cortisol. I have a lot of the symptoms people talk about like racing thoughts at night, waking up in the middle of the night (apparently signs of a cortisol spike) which happens to me quite a bit especially when I’m stressed at work. I kind of chalked these things up to ADHD (hyperactive brain) at times, but starting to think otherwise. Does anyone else experience this?

To find out for sure, I would go to a psychologist and ask for assistance. One that specializes in ADHD.

I get racing thoughts at night but it’s more from my symptoms of anxiety and bipolar.

There’s a significant percentage of people with ADHD who have multiple mental health diagnoses.

Even if you don’t have ADHD, the psychologist can give you tools for coping

Do you meditate outside of these episodes? Meditating is like training for a marathon; just like dropping in on a marathon would be a terrible way to start running. Trying to meditate only in the middle of a panic attack wouldn’t be useful at all. It is extremely helpful if you have a meditation practice that you can then bring to these occasions.

High cortisol can show on your face and complexion too. I got it checked during a blood draw. Mine wasn’t too high.

I have a pretty demanding job so I can’t say stress isn’t part of life, but I’ve always been a generally anxious person (even as a kid) so I’ve always prioritized exercise and generally eat pretty well.

I usually sleep 7+ hours a night unless my mind is racing at 4am but I usually try to do meditate for at least an hour before I give up and get up lol

I’m self diagnosed but if I was interested in meds I would go professional diagnosis.

I have 3 children that have all been professionally diagnosed and have done medication. Doctors looked at me and laughed when asking if anyone else in the family had it.

I didn’t pursue medication because there has been a huge shortage of some of the more effective ones. So for now I pound caffeine all day.

I'm a US citizen living abroad I applied almost 11 months ago for my spouse. Married for years, kid. I wait and wait. It seems this will take 2 years, maybe more. I feel trapped. On one side the US system demands I work and domicile in US, the other side says families should be prioritized to stay together. My spouse has had enough of the process. I feel trapped abroad and locked in a dysfunctional system. We're just in limbo, it's depressing

Maybe this is the socialist in me but shouldn’t Moderna and Pfizer waive their patent exclusivity for their Covid vaccines? Don’t we have a moral obligation for the world to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible?

It blows my mind that many countries won’t be able to vaccinate most of their people until 2023. There should be access to vaccine generics

I want to see if I could negotiate being eligible earlier but I also don’t want them to think I’m pregnant when I’m not actually… How would you approach the conversation?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours?
