I’m a woman and tired of the comments I get from colleagues and clients like, “ you should wear skirts and heels more,” “you’re such a petite little thing.” I've tried saying "please don't comment on my body/outfit, let's get back to ___" but it’s getting really tiring- what can I say to finally shut it down from repeat offenders?

What kind of clients do you have? Are these professionals or family law clients? This is very antiquated behavior. I’ve had older women call me a petite little things but they themselves were too and it was still odd but ok as I knew them pretty well at that point and they were clients that I’d spent a lot of time with and it was part of a compliment for how tough I was being with the other side. But in a different circumstance or by a colleague this is unprofessional so you’re right to be annoyed and ticked. Good idea to have a go to to shut it down. How about - what I wear doesn’t effect my skills as a lawyer one bit so let’s stay on track or just ignore it and say I’d like to stay on task here and address the issues.

Adding that for repeat offenders I’d say speak privately and directly with them that you’re tired of the comments and expect not to hear them anymore. Then call them on it if it happens again

Hi all. I’m a new hire as an associate tech consultant, been here for ~2 weeks.

This week, I’ll be meeting my senior manager (who is also my counsellor) in a 1:1 virtual session. Any tips on specific questions I should ask? I’m meeting him for the first time and thought I might want to learn a lot from him!

Thanks :D

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

Is it advisable to hand in your notice prior to background checks being completed? If not surely when they approach my current employer they’ll know, or are they discreet?

I know this seems small, but my team ignored my birthday this week while celebrating two others. It’s not like they didn’t know - it’s my 2nd birthday celebrated with this team. Feels horrible.

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!
