My company sells a service that’s supposed to help save people time in their day. So I always ask first for them to walk me through their typical day.
You're better off ensuring a strong handoff from sales including sufficient information and data passthrough, and validating that info with your client. Especially if your customers are large/ enterprise engagements, no one wants to repeat themselves. It's annoying for the client and their expectation is that you are communicating about them internally prior to the introduction. Also, entering into an intro asking basic discovery questions can even erode confidence in your organization as it implies your business is disorganized and siloed.
