Has anyone read any books by Jocko Willink? Looking to buy extreme ownership or the dichotomy of leadership but I can’t decide

Does your firm form leadership group trainings? We usually do every summer but we are starting one these last 2 months. We usually read books or watch something and then discuss. If you do them, do you think they are effective?

If you’re succeeding on all the right metrics (i.e., leadership loves you, clients love you, you’re participating on pitches, you’ve brought in clients, and you’re set up to inherit a book of business), but you’re still not super into it, being promoted to income partner won’t change things, right? Worth sticking out to see or jumping to go in house at a pre-IPO, late stage startup you find super exciting and interesting?

I am beyond stuck in my first 1.5 years of my career.

I was over promised opportunities at my first gig and then Covid hit. Leading me to have no portfolio worthy pieces from this 💩 agency with nothing great in sight. (place hasn’t won a pitch in my entire time here + lost clients)

I’m juggling re-vamping my site and a side project to hopefully make my book more robust.

Looking for inputs and insights into developing Executive Presence as an immigrant female. Any books, tutorials, live classes etc. that has helped anyone and willing to share? Also looking to hear what in your experience has been the reason that impedes the exec presence someone could potentially bring in a senior leadership setting. How does that differ for a M vs. F candidate?

If I was a junior on a team during a campaign launch, is that something I can put in my book? I helped during the concepting phase, was responsible for keeping the boards up to date, and wrote a lot of the supporting materials (print, social etc) but obviously I was not on the shoot or the lead on writing the script. As long as I’m clear about my role is that acceptable?

Our senior creative leadership keep talking about winning Cannes Lions and D&AD pencils but none of them have actually won any since 2007 (that’s 14 years 😭 ) and between all three of them they’ve never won more than a couple of silvers, a couple of bronzes and a couple of in-books (that’s with a combined experience of over 60 years 😭). They have no clue 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭. Tell me something about your agency so that I can feel better about the hell-hole I find myself in🙏

How does one go about preparing for, applying to and doing well at general counsel jobs? I’m a senior in house counsel and looking to get to the next level and take on a leadership role. Also battling impostor syndrome - I think many of us hold ourselves back. Are there any GC boot camps, books, training programs, coaching, mentorship programs and anything else that could help take me to the next level?

I'm so frustrated. I've been working for 10 years and I can't get an interview for Senior AD roles, but I get tons of enthusiastic calls for Intermediate ones. Im doing the work of a senior now - concepting alone, working direct with clients, guiding the odd junior - and I do a lot of stuff for the community at large that shows leadership (like conference stuff).

I've had CDs review my book and they say my work is great. Why can't I land a senior job? I want to manage, I have good ideas. WTF?

Is serving 1 week notice mean being in bad books of employer? I am just exhausted and feel burnt out from constant weekend work and 15hrs of work daily for months and no resource to help to share the work load due to budget constraints. Finally had to pull the plug and I am so glad i did.But leadership wants 2 to 3 weeks of notice whereas I am serving 1 week only.

I hope everyone at EY will book vacation in November/December to use the accrued hours they EARNED. This PTO thing really is a shame, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the other B4 follow suit. The one thing we all have in common is leadership finding creative ways to screw over employees.
