Four Pillars to Allyship
Call to action: Allyship means using your personal privilege to support colleagues from historically marginalized communities. An ally is not an identity, but rather an approach to life. Consider these four pillars to Allyship and how you can practice them every day:
Yielding: Realize how life is different for other people and take a break to first listen and learn before jumping into action.
Listening: If you want to support someone, always listen to understand what they need or want from you. Sometimes the best action you can take is to only listen.
Learning: Self education is the key to being an ally! Read definitions of words you don’t understand and research history or context of marginalized communities.
Action: Speak up when you hear something mean or discriminatory. Correct others and correct yourself when you use the wrong phrase or term. Join in events or volunteer and get to know the people in the community you’re looking to support.
Learn More: This thought was developed based on LGBTQ+ ROLLA Allyship article below. Read the article to learn more about the Four Pillars and read a list of ‘Dos and Don’ts’ to LGBTQ+ inclusive language.

This is great! Thank you for sharing!
Knowledge is definitely power, and reading and having an understanding of what you are doing before you jump into action is very important. You can really set yourself back if you don't do that.

I think it's important to remember that allyship is a journey, not a destination. We all make mistakes, but it's important to keep learning and growing.
Thanks a lot for sharing!

I love that you included yielding, I feel like a lot of folks jumped the gun and inadvertently upset or disrupt things that are already ongoing, instead of trying to seek an appropriate place in the existing milieu
