Ours is pretty sober these days. I think too many people got sexually harassed or got too sloppy and gross. Surprised any business still has drinking during work, I can’t think of one where it’s common anymore.
Before the pandemic, this was common. Shots all around after a rough pitch, drinks being mixed at desks on Friday afternoons…it was fun. Less so now that people aren’t in office as much.
Currently not much of a thing. But I worked at agencies that have had full bars - one even had a full-time bartender on staff. Waaaaay back.
Pretty standard.
It happens but not as much as it used to. I don’t drink but I like the fact that we can have a glass of wine at 3-4 and relax together a little.
My agency's entire culture is drinking and a big part of why I'm looking for a new gig
I’ve gotten peer pressured to take shots during the day. I may keep a look out too.
Midwest agency - only on Thursday or Friday among more senior-level execs, or if there’s a team/company events. Juniors head out to happy hour but less drinking in office. Plenty don’t partake!
Everyone is a booze hound
I’ve only witnessed “the happy hour” at agencies in Chicago. It was quite a shock having worked in LA and NY. I grew to embrace it. This is the Chitown culture.
My agency has a weekly happy hour (I’m not sure how many people go anymore since RTO was mandated), and we have an annual offsite team thing that’s usually at a bar/brewery, and it’s common for a Thursday or Friday 4:00 round of whatever’s in the fridge (usually beers or claws)
There was this ECD at McCann NY who was always drinking red wine every afternoon. Which I didn’t care about. The fact that she was subpar at her job is what irked me.
Really? Damn
if i didn’t have to drive in la maybe
It’s not unusual
Folks drink a lot less than they used to
The fact that I got someone saying that if I don't go the the holiday after party, which begins at midnight, I am less likely to be promoted irked me. I put in my time on a Friday, I don't want to pop bottles and do blow til 4 am
Bar carts, offices with full bars and bartenders, happy hours where everyone went…used to be a fun industry.
Smartphones and social media destroyed agency culture
