50 of those pounds have been lost in the last 6 months. My MD has made several comments including “I never see you eat. Do you eat?” I am eating 1600 calories a day and being conscious of my choices including trying not to skip meals but that comment threw me. I responded with, of course I eat I just don’t always eat at normal times and I don’t snack. I also know I want to lose about 60 more pounds so I have no idea how that is going to be received. Do I just nod and smile? Do I joke along?
Your self-discipline is commendable, and you can riff on that to your benefit. I was a big 4 Sr Mgr, my thinking about staff promotion potential included observations on character traits. Tell your MD that you are pursuing a goal, that you’ve found a successful solution which is healthy for you, and that you are determined to succeed. Tell him/her that you choose not to make a big deal of it with peers.
Apologize for speaking about your situation w/o knowing all of the facts, but have you considered eating more and making up for the additional calories with more cardio if needed?
When I’m trying to trim down myself I will do that because it makes me happier. I bargain with myself “if I eat this cookie, I’ll run an extra 30 mins today” .
I’m sure you don’t mean any harm, but that kind of bargaining suggestion is actually quite problematic for a person with any trace of disordered eating as OP mentioned.
First, congrats on losing weight. Second ignore MD - you dont need to explain anyone your eating habits. I think your response was spot on!
