What’s your a1c? That’s what I focus on mainly.
This is new to me, so I am not sure. But I did just get a call from the lab that my fasting was normal, but my 1 hr and 2 hr were abnormal. 1hr at 294 and 2hr at 141. Is that the a1c?
2hr of 141 is fine
No, a1c is a specific blood test that checks for the amount of blood cells coated in glucose. It can be used to determine what your average blood sugar was over the past three months. It is reported as a percentage.
A normal a1c is below 5.7%. Between 5.7 and 6.4 is prediabetes. 6.5 and above is type 2 diabetes.
If you’re concerned that you may be diabetic, I highly recommend you have this test done. Your doctor will know all about it, as it’s typically part of a yearly physical.
If you end up being diagnosed as diabetic, your doctor is likely going to recommend that you have this test done every six months to monitor your condition. Also, depending on how high it is they may want to prescribe you a medication to help promote insulin production.
Low carb dieting is a cornerstone of diabetes management. It can help greatly reduce your a1c.
Thanks, I'll speak to my doctor.
