I recently received an inheritance from my father and it’s sitting in my checking account. I’ve used fidelity to manage my 401k and personal investing, but TBH am a bit scared to do anything with this new money I received. How do I go about getting professional advice to invest and grow this inheritance?

No harm in taking advice from a financial planner for dealing with big sum of investable funds. If you do so, see a fiduciary with fee-only cost (no commission for AUM).

But remember, no one cares about your money than you do. Read up on basic investing, DCA, total stock market funds, general FIRE. Quite easily done even if you're talking about 100s of thousands.

I had a similar situation (inherited from my grandfather and had no financial advisor) and I ended up setting up a relationship with his financial advisor. I figured they had managed his money pretty well that there was this much left over, and he was a great judge of character so I trusted his choices. It was also the easy solution during a challenging, stressful time (executing the will + managing difficult family dynamics + grieving). We don’t often meet in person because the advisor is across the country, but it’s worked out great for me so far.

I too once thought I had a mutually beneficial relationship with my FA. Went with him after deciding I didn’t have the time to do it on my own. Yanked my money a week after he tried to sell me an annuity and have no regrets.

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

How do you invest and save for your children? I’m thinking about setting them up with custodial brokerage accounts but don’t want them to have a heyday at 18. Did you create irrevocable trusts or?? They are too young for earned income and I don’t own a business so no IRA investing opportunities here.

Can someone help me with this? I had a low utilization since pandemic, I.e., ~sub 5%, but never missed any payments. Would credit score be impacted if only one line of credit with a low utilization?

Too few accounts currently paid as agreed
FICO®

Scores consider the number of accounts that are paid as agreed. Your score was impacted because the number of these accounts is too low, or because you've missed payments recently on some of your accounts.
