why would you switch? much more limited career options
I am in the space. Dm if you want more info. What city or cities?
That practice has been a bit of a mixed bag recently, so it may take a while to find the right fit and make the switch. Obviously depending on your background and the type of firm you’re looking for.
Your resume will be really important (when is it not). Showcasing projects experience or at least closely related work will get you the best shot at an interview.
Firms are less likely to want to train someone from scratch in this current job market, so if you’re able to get some of that work under your belt at your current firm, I’d start there.
If you’ve already done that, then leveraging your existing relationships and networks will be important too. If you’re targeting a firm and don’t know anyone in that group directly, see if you know anyone in common who could facilitate an introduction. Take a few people out for coffee and just ask them questions about the practice and their experience at the firm. Develop a friendship with them to test your assumptions and make sure it’s the right transition for you.

I’ve gotten some projects experience already, and frankly I just find it much more interesting. Why do people think it sucks?
