Snow Days during busy season!! Yikes! How do you all juggle kids at home demanding attention and all of the demands of an unrelenting busy season day (that does not stop for snow!)

Does the firm have emergency daycare? They will come to your house for however many hours you need. You just lock yourself in a room and work. Alternatively the team just needs to understand this stuff happens and you’ll work early when the kids nap and when they sleep.

Hopefully your team appreciates the reality of having kids. If they don’t, have a talk with the manager about how you don’t always have control over their schedules.

The Just in Case reimbursement program will reimburse up to $1k when your regular childcare isn’t available, or when you need to work late or travel. I use that every busy season. Have a neighbor high schooler whose also off of school come over for the day and that can cover it.

We do pwc op but it’s day care centers and they prob aren’t open if schools are closed. Look on the prepared parent microsite.

KPMG has backup care either in a center for free (15 days max) or at your house for a small copay. Haven't used it yet but it can really come in handy in a crunch. They only need a couple hours notice for them to be at your home.

You can do what some people in my office do and bring your kid to work! Super not distracting and great for kids on the 3/5 days a week that happens... Ps not just during busy season, and keep them here until 1 am!

like

It is challenging. Good part is that when it's snowing I'm not expected to come into the office, but I still need to work, and with the kids home it's tough. I find that everything else aside, the thing that makes the most difference is how rested I am. If I made sure to have a decent sleep the night before I can manage much better with juggling work and the kids, but if I'm low on sleep all hell breaks loose.

D1 Emergency daycare would be awesome!! I wish we did.

PwC 1 - thanks I will!

BDO 1 - Wow, that is insane!!

That's awesome PwC 2. I wasn't familiar w/ the reimbursement program but will look into it!

Pwc Op, look at life works to find it.
BDO1, that is a nice idea, to be able to take your kids to work some days would be great

Helloooooo high rollers, fishbowlers. I am a full time PM, as well as a dad to two amazing kiddo’s; needless to say; I don’t have much time in my day, but when I do, I’m exhausted to say the least. COVID halted living out of suite case and allowed dinner at home with family. Discovering what my life should have been. With rapid vaccination, I cringe at the thought of meaningless nights on the road again. Thinking about leaving public accounting but not sure if I’m leaving too early. First year audit manager at one of the big4 and I think I could make it to senior manager but definitely not partner. Been highly rated since I joined the firm but I feel I won’t be learning much for the next couple of years before I leave for industry. Im also married with children.
