Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase

Check out DocuSign! Fantastic place to work even in non-COVID times. We are busier than ever right now and hiring.
The time saving value this company has brought to the world is incredible.
Tech is a relatively safe bet, some parts of the industry have been more affected than others. Have heard Amazon AWS and Cybersecurity are flourishing. Products that influence WFH collaboration like videoconferencing and intranets are also looking great.
Friend got hired at Zoom recently
I think so. Great Q though. Being in sales right now is pretty rough. “tech is expensive and no one has the money to buy it” “we will wait you see how this pans out” F that. People need to get back to business.
Hear me out. Im in B2B sales in NYC and we’ve seen soooo many tech opps within the last 2 months (like annual revenue worth) and it’s not slowing down at all. Maybe more so in new tech (temperature check in kiosks, WFH solutions, etc) but as far as sales go, I think tech is going to continue to skyrocket. Personally, I am working WAY more productively from home because I cut out my daily commute and spend that time reaching prospects/admin work. There aren’t even talks of going back to the office at all. I know that’s not how things are going for all industries but I’ve heard it from many others (law firms, architects, financial advisors, PR firms) so If that’s what other businesses are seeing I feel like new tech is such a huge opportunity. Anything that gets us back to business is a really really really good thing right now.
People aren’t comfortable around each other but we all still need to do our jobs and get the economy back in shape. Also- any tech that can reconnect us emotionally is much needed in these times. Go sell that shit.
Agreed. I'm enjoying a less stressful day, but it doesn't mean we quit working. Demand for everything isn't just going to disappear.
Tech is definitely a good place to be ✌🏼
I am on furlough, trying to find a new job now too. I applied to a few places and rn I am moving on to the 2nd stage for an AE role at a growing tech company as well as phone interviews with a couple others. There’s definitely opportunity at the right company, id say keep researching and grinding and reaching out on LinkedIn
I’m a real estate broker in NYC and it’s a more consultative sales process with a lot of face time with clients. A lot more dynamic than all-day cold calling with the same sales cycle you may have had at Yelp. I have accounts that need servicing for commercial leasing and residential sales. Good way to get started and learn the ropes. A lot of people start with younger first time homebuyers so it’s a great time to secure a nice deal on an apartment and have parties feel good about their transaction. Feel free to send me an email: ccohen@roeblinggroup.com
It’s pretty obvious what is going to work. Think about the industry these tech companies are in. I want to say the majority of SaaS is thriving
Any role that you are selling a product that wont be tanked by a bad economy.
