For a zoom interview is it better to have a virtual background or no background?

I just had to turn off my laptop and walk away for the night because I am on the verge/already breaking down a bit. I know the rest of my team had to work later (I peaked on slack) and i feel super guilty and embarrased about not helping. This is the first time I've gotten to a point like this and although I know mentally I needed to do it, I can't stop reading messages from coworkers as stabs at me for ditching.

Dear Slack PM,

Please create a delayed send option. Sometimes ppl work late or on the weekend to catch up and want to share something with someone. But I don't want them to feel the need to respond off hours, or forget by Monday morning. I know they can turn off their notifications, but if they haven't then I'm stuck in a pickle. So instead of me saving it to notes and then forgetting to ask till Tuesday or so, just give me the option to delay send on a Saturday afternoon.

I'm being asked to support multiple engagements now. I'm actively looking to move out of consulting. No offers yet. What happens if I slack or not take additional work (possibly ending up on the wrong side of PPMD)? I've decided to move on as soon as I get my 1st offer (not sure when 🤞🏼).

Parents - my company is thinking of hosting an optional, free biscuit making class over zoom in the evening for anyone who wants to participate and/or bring their kids. What time is best? 6:30? 7? Not sure when bedtime is for elementary/middle schoolers these days.

Zoom vs WebEx... Pros and cons of each and which one do you like better?

Question- is it appropriate for team members to join video calls with political propaganda in view? For example, if a person had a giant Biden/Harris sign or Trump sign and the clients might have different affiliations, should we worry about that or ask team members to tone it down? Just curious in this land of all zoom from home all the time.

Has anyone gone to therapy to deal with stress from work? I've started to develop pretty bad anxiety / a constant sense of doom, and the whole 'Zoom meditation sessions' through work are laughable attempts from the corporate world to deal with it.

Anyone feel like our new associates have become very entitled? Maybe it’s just my office but it’s been frustrating because the rest of the team ends up picking up the slack. i am so miserable at work. i have been looking for work and a company i applied to over summer reached out for a different position and i was so excited. i got my hopes up and i thought it went well but i got the reject notice right before i had to hop on a zoom an hour ago. i just wanted to sit and cry in my zoom meeting. i’m so burnt out and empty.

Started out hating Zoom depos. Kind of like them now. In hour two of a co-defendant’s examination, which is entirely irrelevant to my client, and I’ve clipped my nails, stretched fully, planned a hike for the weekend, ordered my home goods off Amazon, and it’s all billable time because I’m stuck on this thing.

Very cool: my new partner barely responds to Slack messages about ideas. Be better please people it’s not that hard to collaborate 😒 working from home alone is already hard enough.

Everyone on the table is talking about agile vs waterfall, terrible consultants, zoom backgrounds, (all industry folks)... I just want to go home and go to sleep. So exhausting...

Anyone else doing bear diags on Peloton and Zoom? I can't see growth at either, and actually think Peloton will see revenue declines once re-opening starts in earnest.

How do you deal with all of the constant pings? I need some focus time to write emails & create campaigns but my entire team tends to be “on call” with Slack all day and it’s making me crazy. I want to bring this up to the rest of the executive team because we are overboard with the constant notifications and questions/comments that don’t really need to be in slack.

Laterals during covid from big law to big law. How do you deal with the loneliness? Zoom isn’t helpful for me.

This “always on” slack/teams culture needs to end. Timestamped emails after and before work hours should be penalised as signs of poor time management skills and project management efficiencies. I hope we do like germans and labor laws are made for after work hour messaging.

Would you ask your landlord to pay for a hotel /airBnB while your rental is being renovated? The work is on my balcony and building exterior, and it's so loud my kid can't hear her zoom classes and I can't WFH! Today I called the construction Co and they said they'll be at it 4-8 more weeks.

The short: Would anyone be up for starting regular virtual co-working sessions? I’m thinking 2-3 rounds of [5 mins to set intentions : 45 mins of work : 10 min break]. The long: One technique I’ve found to stay focused is “body doubling,” i.e., having another person present while you’re working. I’ve had some success replicating this over Zoom/Google Meet. Everyone works on their own thing and stays muted during work blocks, but videos stay on. It reminds me of studying in the library vs at home

Y’all, why does Skype for business have to say how long you’ve been away or offline for?!!

Currently dealing with a mediator who just sets up zoom calls for the next morning without asking anyone’s availability. He’s done this at least 4 times now. I find this so inconsiderate, let alone inefficient. Anyone else dealing with zoomer boomers?

Any other recent college grads feel lost? The studies I’ve worked on have been dull, the quality of coaching over zoom is not great, and I have no work friends 😓

How do you tell someone to stop messaging people on slack during the weekend? They go as far as tagging people and selecting "notify anyway" when DND / snooze is on.

Whenever I get pissed off at work, I dial into my own Skype link for the status “in a call” and sometimes also share my own desktop to change it to “in a conference call” and then go watch a movie or clean up the apartment 🤣
