I work remotely three times a week. But twice a week I have to commute to work (1.5 hours away each way). Mind you my entire team is in another state. I commute to the closest office to meet with them through Zoom. I don't talk to ANYONE in the office. I want to ask my manager if I can be FT remote but I just started and don't want to sound entitled. But there is literally no point. Should I ask anyway?

So, I have been working remotely for a while, I hit all my goals, and have never had any performance issues. So, why is my boss constantly checking in on me and hitting me with surprise zoom meetings? I really cannot take all of this micro-managing!

On a big zoom call this morning. Child walks in fully naked and COVERED in marker. I mean face, legs, hands, everything. Even better, I didn't hear them right away and a coworker had to let me know they were there via chat. Turned around and my kid looked like a soldier in army paint. Not my finest parenting moment since I just pushed them out into the hallway and continued with my meeting. Sharing the shame here

What company is at the top of your product wishlist for working? I'd love to work at Slack or at Notion. Both have great reputations and Slack especially is supposed to be an ideal place for PM's. Notion mostly just cause I use it and would love to be involved in bettering a product I actually use. Now all I have to do is actually become a product manager.

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

My child has some troubles and needs behavioral health interventions and I’m still working today despite my agency being closed. Such dedication from this teacher in ensuring they have their needs met. Isn’t the first time either.

We have our last session of the year of our group/guest financial education cycles at our Downtown Toronto office this Saturday. We go through our first financial education session that we talk about basic to higher level of financial information; from saving, investing, risks and returns, registered accounts, etc. There is no cost and no obligation. Two weekends ago, I stupidly left my work phone in another part of the state. As required, I reported it as soon as I noticed it was missing. Luckily I only use my work phone to occasionally check my email while on the go and dial into zoom meetings, so nothing sensitive was compromised. My old phone was superhero blue. The replacement is Barbie pink. I guess that’s punishment enough, especially being a big 6’4 man 😂.

Tips on interviewing and navigating being sick? Some interviewers don't want to wait...but also look at you like you have two heads if you proceed with the zoom interview.

I'm wondering besides advil, fluids etc is there things I can do to give myself a boost during the interview itself/not sound sick? Then just go back to resting after lol

To hiring managers, why is networking such a big deal in this day and age? Do you find that candidates who do zoom chats with 3 employees and get referrals are much stronger than those who just submit applications?
(Note: I mean this sort of shallow networking as distinct from having worked closely with someone on the team. I understand why that referral carries weight)

How do you handle this: candidate hired 2.5 weeks ago after 3 rounds of interviews over 4 weeks. All via zoom so only half of upper body was visible. Now for the first time she’s letting the firm know she’s pregnant and expects to give birth next week and wants the firm to give her paid leave for 8 weeks plus unpaid 2. We’ve all been full remote. During interviews it was made very clear that next 6 months will be all hands on deck due due to a couple of major deals.

Hello,

Did I just do a mistake by quoting too high a number? Please let me know your opinions.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Hi there - my company is returning to office next month. Hybrid to begin before they ramp up to 5 days back in office by end of year.

I think the fact they want to bring us back 5 days is disrespectful considering how much work we’ve put in remotely over the last year. Not to mention productivity studies say people who WFH (and have no kids) are substantially more productive.
