Some context might help. When a guy says “happy wife, happy life” it’s caveated on the fact that he already found the perfect wife for him. She already makes him happy, and probably does things (intentionally or otherwise) that she doesn’t have to that makes him happy. “Happy wife, happy life” is just a reminder to himself not to take her for granted.
Let me ask you this: What would you be saying if you had a wife who is a 9/10, great in bed, a good parent to your kids and pets, amazing cook, plans time for your games and your family, and earns 300k+? You don’t think a happy her = a happy life?
Counsel 1 - Good for you man! That's so awesome :)
Spencer Hill is the largest publishing house of adult romantic novels in US...haha. I was made to read one of those and learned they are super popular among women
Well….
“Happy husband, happy life” doesn’t rhyme so…
Happy hubby, cut his balls off!! ☠️
Happy Spouse, Happy House! Yall are outdated. 😂
"Happy spouse, happy house" is the phrase that has always felt better to me and said in my home (I'm a happily married F of 10 yrs).
The updated saying is “happy spouse, happy house” get with the times boomer 😂
So you blame someone else for not getting a house. That is sad.

This is how I remind myself to not get upset when my wife spends money like a drunk sailor, which is constant.
I have plenty of unfavorable characteristics too though so I guess it’s sort of “live and let live”

You saying we should want our wives to be sad or...?
BTW if you love your family you will make some sacrifices in your life. Sounds like you dont want to make any sacrifices for your family, very selfish. I guess you don't have any kids?
I’m just curious do lesbian couples use this saying? How does it guide their actions if so?
Can confirm OW is right. Usually it’s said to the wife when she wants something about which I have no strong preferences, or to get out of hanging out with colleagues when the fam is waiting for me for dinner.
As a woman I agree I don’t like that phrase because it’s usually used with negative connotations.. It’s unfair to the man and it’s unfair to the woman assuming she can’t make her own happiness. On the flipside I’m also not a feminist and I do believe that there are specific gender roles, or that just in general men are better at certain things and women are better at other certain things. But if I have to ask my husband to do something five times I’m not gonna be happy … Or if he refuses to compromise or let me win a little bit.
Lol of course some people will read it this way. No the point is don’t neglect your own happiness and respect your own individuality and the person you are. Don’t make decisions only to make others happy, it’s ok to do things for yourself too not just your significant other.

To say it doesn’t mean “it’s better for you to just let her be right and/or have her way than to hold your ground” is being disingenuous.
It isn't entirely wrong for husbands to be saying that, so long as wives are saying "happy husband happy life."
This book introduces a great concept of a relationship bank, where all of your interactions whether it's directly with your spouse or whether it's something as mundane as dropping and breaking a cellphone all either deposit or withdraw closeness from the bank. A good read

And that’s the issue. You can’t even say it. It means to care for her and her happiness. Nothing in there says sacrifice yours.
I, too, enjoy the taste of my wife’s tears each night, OP.

Some got it wrong but a true happy wife is a happy life. If she is your real partner your happiness makes her happy.
The man needs to speak up and voice what is bothering him or what is not feasible in order to stop that norm, obviously with our stepping on the wife’s toes in terms of hurting her autonomy and her mental health.
For example if you have a woman who wants a house that costs so much and the man knows they can’t afford it, then he needs to say something and set parameters. Or if the woman is mad because he spends time with his friends, he needs to say “hey I need this time, the way you need a girls night out”. It takes two to tango in a relationship and they both need to work together to make the union, a happy one.
I say, if you BOTH, try, to give 100% to your relationship (regardless if married, or not) AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, even when times are tough, things will all work out, as will your relationship!
WHEW!!
A paragraph of a sentence!!
