Tons of places to go from here, I don’t think feeling stuck is the apt perspective to have. I applaud you for seeking education on your own, my past supervisor told me she would teach me everything she knew and held me back instead. Have you considered total rewards or an HR business partner type position (focused on talent development based on the needs of the org)?
It depends on what you gravitate towards in your HRG role. Is it recruitment, project management, benefits, employee relations? I’d start there and then explore roles in your area that match the profile you are interested in. You can also review HR manager roles that do not have direct reports those roles are very similar to generalist responsibilities with more pay.
I'm hoping to make the transition into recruiting eventually. That's what is most exciting to me, and it pays well.
If you enjoy the work of a Generalist, you can also look into promoting up into an HR Manager role of a smaller organization where you would still have a lot of variation in your tasks. My current role has actually made me realize I am not looking for HRBP or Director at this point in my life because I'm prioritizing work/life balance right now and not looking to be a strategic leader (yet). Maybe in a few years when my son starts school...
