Is it mandatory to join TCS after attending prejoining webex call? I have got another offer!

I was overjoyed when I was selected to interview for my dream job. The email stated “You were selected for a virtual interview for the _ position. Interviews will take approximately one hour. Please confirm a preferred time and you will receive a confirmation email.” Followed by a list of times & dates. I replied within the hour.
Well, flash forward a week to the night before the interview and I still haven’t received a confirmation email! I have no idea if it’s zoom or phone or what. Help!!

I am currently in the process of interviews at Slack for Platform Support Agent role. I have spent quite some time now looking for a compensation range for this role. The position is in Toronto and I want to confirm what the range would look like.

Best mic and audio set up for traveling and/or home? Connecting all my earphones and headphone via Bluetooth to my computer doesn’t seem like the best in terms of quality both sound and mic. I’ve tried being on a call on zoom via iPhone but I don’t want to have zoom call me all the time. Any advice on set up and products? Thanks!!!!

I hate my manager. She is a very hard worker, incredibly technically skilled. But she micromanages and consistently asks you for updates. The reason why I dislike her is because I do not have the opportunity to slack off🥲

Anyone have tips on overcoming shyness/social anxiety in consulting? I struggle to speak up on zoom calls, esp when I'm not directly being addressed or other members are talking. And everytime I do speak up, I feel like I sound so awkward or not confident in what I'm saying

My junior direct report has been struggling to stay organized, adhere to calendar meetings, avoid being overwhelmed by slack & manage/prioritize their workload. Is this something I should let them figure out alone?

So far I have kept a close eye for two months and see improvement. Have checked in weekly or twice a week in 1:1, asked others to direct new assignments for the junior to me first, taught them how Google calendar works and worked through prioritizing assignments a few times in Docs.

What is your personal policy on how fast you will respond to client emails?

I personally am really hard on myself over fast communications by email and Slack. I haven’t gotten in trouble for anything but keep feeling this immense pressure I put on myself to be always on or respond within a few hours.

Should someone be fired for accidentally sending a naked selfie in the Slack channel?

Best technical solutions for ghosting junior colleagues into Zoom or Teams meetings where there are optics issues about consultant headcount? We used to put them in a conference room alongside us in 2019, but we are mostly remote now.

What are your thoughts on someone trying to build wealth off of their grandparent because their own parents were incapable and both grandparents had to step in financial and were forced to pickup the slack. Currently grandma does not like when her grandchild asks for money despite the grandchild has a degree, own apartment, no car note and great savings. The grandchild wants to leave her apt to live rent free with her grandma and buy multi unit home and go to med school. Is this normal?

Have NYC-based employers with hybrid schedule been lenient for office workers? In light of crime trends, pandemic, work-life priorities, I'm trying to assess if taking a hybrid NYC job (as someone working remotely from NJ now) is worth the headache. Potential new employer says 3 days in a week, but during my interview process, I only met with one person who was in the office during my Zoom interview.

Are people using calculators on zoom interviews?

Zoom calls where your colleagues say they/so-&-so is out sick, continue on saying there must be a bug going around. I’ve heard comments like this like 3 or 4 times in the last couple months - why do humans lack so much awareness?

Anyone else absolutely loathe the process of getting a new job now? Pre-covid I didn’t mind it, but now ☹️ I’m fortunate enough to have these opportunities and interviews but working from home has spoiled me. Let’s just meet on zoom or something stop making me drive 😩

Has anyone used their phone to do a zoom video interview? Don’t have a non-work laptop to use, wondering if there’s any downside to using my iPhone (it’s not a technical interview just first behavioral round)

Have a coworker who volunteers for work but never ends up doing it. At what point does it make sense to go to the partner to address this? We’re both midlevels, and I’m tired of having to put in even more time every weekend to pick up his slack. If this were a junior, I’d address it with them first, but this is unacceptable from a fifth/sixth year.

How do you have your Slack organized for your organization? More specifically, when you have larger cross functional initiatives, do you create a separate channel for that? How do you handle sub-topics stemming from that larger project (like a particular workstream) – another channels, thread, group DMs?

Good ways to say goodbye and good luck to a team member? All of the team is virtual and hence can’t do a lunch/happy hour sort of thing. Not interested in virtual happy hour. Looking for something more fun and creative
