I’d disagree with the above. I think this is the criteria most sales people are looking for...
Would look into the benefits, Glassdoor/repvue scores, ongoing training, and just see if you vibe with your manager and team since that’s who you’re gonna be spending most of your time with.
Thanks! The last one is so important to me!
Pause.
You listed out your three criteria there (although I would say #3 is not a high priority).
If the job is the same title and responsibility, what is the purpose of moving? Does it accomplish the career growth you’re looking for?
How is your performance at DocuSign? Exceeding targets? Are you already crossing that of the list?
I would spend more time hardening your career goals and criteria…
They are telling you that you are doing the what, but not the how. Companies like you to do the job before you get the job. If you are easily overachieving on your numbers, find ways to do more to mentor your teammates, your BDRs, and find opportunities to show leadership if you want to move up. You are not gonna get a promotion for being good at the job that you are doing right now. It won’t happen at Gartner either. Your best chance of moving up is staying where you are, showing you can do your current job in half the time, and use the other half of your time to take on extra projects and show leadership and influence.
What part of Gartner? I would say that G is a large, global organization, and thus your experience can vary a lot by practice, geography, sales leadership, team.
But if career growth is important, it sounds like there would be clearer markers for advancement than at DocuSign. You're eligible for promotion every 2 years except in rare cases.
Feel free to DM as you advance. Good luck!
Read a lot about Gartner recently. Their training academy which was world class has gone from 2 months in a classroom to 2 weeks online so the AE’s aren’t being given the same chance at succeeding as before. It also largely depends on the accounts you’re handed when you start, if they’re not great, you won’t be get great results. They hand their new trainees $5k after completing their 2 weeks training, but by all accounts get rid of 20% of the training class at the end of the 2 weeks and I read that somewhere close to 50/60% of AE’s don’t make it through Year 1. A lot of the great reviews you read on Glassdoor are apparently written by new starters during their training.
I worked at Gartner and made good money but I left because the only upward trajectory I saw was being a Mgr to a sales team; the only other roles that would pay well would be as an analyst or an LP/EP which my skillsets and background would never be a fit for. I also found the pace to be much slower than working at a tech co so good WLB but I got a little bored as I prefer the hustle of true tech sales. As someone else said, your success will depend on your account base and whether they see value in Gartner. And make sure you vet out the Mgmt style of who you will report to. I had great Managers but I heard from others that this is not always the case. You also get to work with many C level folks in your accounts which looks good on a resume. ESPP discount is lower than most companies unless that has changed since I left. 5% vs. 15%. What part of the business are you interviewing for? There are roles selling to AR/Product Mktg, CIO Org, HR, Finance, Supply Chain etc etc
Thanks for the feedback! The role and the interviews didn’t specify the role I’m going to sell to, but I think it will be CIO org (role is based in EMEA)
Hello ! I was just reading this chat, I would love to know what your outcome was if u r keen to share !
Let me have a look at your resume 🙂
I’m based in emea :)
I used to work for Gartner in EMEA, and it's a great career booster. If you work hard you can do really whatever you want. At the same time, you'll have to work really hard and an awful lot. It's all but easy to sell as it's knowledge, not a product.
On the moral side (assuming you've got one), you could end up selling to some really bad company the knowledge necessary to leap forward and do even more harm to the people or the planet.
If you can live with that, go on
Sorry to hear about that! I’ll be working with the Public Sector. Any insights on this?
What did you decide here?
Performance at docusign is great. Overachieving my numbers in the last 2 FY (been with them for 3.5 yrs)
The reason I am looking for other opportunities is mainly lack of career growth at docusign in my own team. I’ve applied twice for a promotion and never got it, the only feedback I received was: numbers are not everything, you need to do more for the team. I’ve asked several times for more precise feedback but never received anything, so I feel I might not be a cultural fit for the team. I don’t want to move to other teams internally as not many people outside of my team were making their numbers post-pandemic.
Thank you for the feedback! That was discussed with docusign before I joined and it never materialized. Money was too good to leave but now is the time!
From what I hear, Gartner is a hustle, high turnover shop. Account Execs have a 400+ accounts an avg deal size is <$100k. Account management might be better, not sure
Would you mind sharing insights about the interviewing process? I have an introductory all on Monday for the BDR role and I really want it.
I am also curious to know how long the hiring process go for.
Many thanks!
