Trying to get smart on the trade offs / pros cons of different investment approaches (buying lower cost rental properties vs buying your own primary residence and holding vs being a partial investor in development projects etc). I’ve been thinking about getting into real estate investing. Not right now but later down the road. I’ve been trying to save up for a down payment. What are some good resources for a beginner? Blogs, YouTube, books etc I’m not looking for paid courses because I will be learning at a slow pace. Any help will be appreciated.

To con't the conversation on engagement rings💍 - what do they symbolize to you? My BF and I got into a discussion about this last night. He views them as an investment and an "asset" on the books for his future family. He also has grandparents who had to finance their trip to America by selling their jewels. I see the ring as more of a gift to the future bride that is an expense that can be sold for money if needed, but isn't an investment. I'm fine w/ lab grown, he is not. Thoughts?

Should I just bite the bullet and buy a prep course? I’d like to think I’m motivated enough to self study... but I’ve had the books for weeks and haven’t opened them yet. I figure investing 1.5k is the push I need to get me going

Looking to get into residential property investing for rental income. Does anyone have any good books or resources to help?

I’ve been an atty for 5 years at a small firm where I started their PI with exp. from the firm I clerked for. Outside of books and seminars, I have no guidance or mentor. Despite this I’ve been somewhat successful ($1-3 Mil/year) but I never stop working. Additionally, the $70K I’ve been paid for the last 3 years has me bitter and burning out. I asked for a raise but was turned down. I feel like less of an investment and more of a cash cow. Am I asking too much? Any advice?

Planning to book flights via my chase reserve card. The flight booking itself does not have any refund policy after the first 24 hours. Question is if i book via my CSR card and have to cancel for whatever reasons will it be covered? I understand if there is an emergency then might be easier and i have read CSRs website on this. My concern is more so if the COVID cases or so increase and i decide not to fly

Taking my GMAT in 7 weeks. Just finished the large Kaplan book and have done 2 practice tests so far. What should I do next? Worth investing in a GMAT tutor? Getting 600 on practice tests but want a 690~.

Have my investments in index funds. My one for my 401k is closely tied to the S&P. I'm down around 1600 since last week, do I change my fund or stay? I've read in a Tony Robbins book, you should stay even when it's tough and keep buying into it.

I just joined a HF from a technical background and I’ll be sitting with the special situations team helping them optimize their investing process. I realize there’s no way I’m going to pass as a seasoned investor, but what can I do to beef up so I don’t totally embarrass myself? I would rate myself as just slightly above a novice on the knowledge scale (took accounting 101, read 5 or so investing books, and did all the interest theory and advanced probability courses for my math degree)

Deferred basis in a partnership. If I am looking to prove out the ending deferred related to an investment in a partnership is it as “simple” as taking the initial contribution and rolling in taxable income year over year for tax basis. For book basis initial investment rolling in book income year over year. Minus any distributions for both.
