I sound cheerful, pleasant, and upbeat like I am 23 years old on the phone. In reality, I am cheerful, sarcastic, cynical, and 50 with a slightly deeper voice. I also swear more than a sailor. My family enjoys calling me at work and making fun of me, "I see you've got your CS voice going. Do people fall for that?" Lol. Is your CS voice different from your real-life voice?

For sure. Mine isn't crazy different but I have to add inflection and change my tone because my regular speaking voice is very dry and monotone.

This had me tickled. I definitely have a customer voice that is not anything like my real voice. My coworkers will laugh when I'm on the phone with a customer because it is just so different. I do it intentionally. It's my phone voice. Only a few customers have heard my real voice over the phone, and they deserved every bit of it.

Yes, my CS voice is different from my real-life voice. In real life, my voice is a bit higher pitched, whereas my CS voice tends to be a bit deeper and more serious. I find that my CS voice is more professional and is better for conveying information than my real-life voice.

8 years in various customer facing positions and my customer service voice gives me a headache on long days and gets more “peppy” the more stressed or upset I get.

My customer service voice makes me cringe. It's so high pitched and peppy. And the more stressed and overwhelmed I get, the higher my voice gets. I usually have a bad headache by the end of really busy shifts.

I do because I'm a pretty mellow person and actually not at all a people person, so my entire table service is an act and I do raise the pitch of my voice so it doesn't sound like I'm in a shitty mood or something. There have been some days where I don't do that and I get really quiet responses like they think I'm mad at them or whatever. Gotta put on a smile and talk like someone from an infomercial or else they'll think I'm grumpy.

Apparently mines different enough that other servers noticed it. When I’m not table-side I’m this anti-social pessimist who will literally yawn like I’m about to fall asleep ALL DAY. But the moment I step out of the waitress station it’s all smiles and big energy.

I’ve had several waitresses laugh at the ridiculous facial expression change that happens going in/out of an area where customers can’t see me. Same thing with the voice; low and slow turns into happy and expressive.

I joke that I’m more of an actor than a server most times.

Most retail people have a customer service voice, and in my experience the ones that don't aren't very good at their job. If she doesn't understand that tell her to get stuffed and leave you alone.

YUP! I will make fun of myself for it but thankfully no one hears my customer service voice outside of work very often. Haha

I love my customer service voice, I learnt it in the army 🪖. I was a radio operator and tech support. I get 50 more closed sales using it vs my standard stoner personality. I tested this over and over. I started using it in my every day life and I get way more attention from the ladies and older folks actually listen to what I have to say. If you are trying to develop it further I would recommend acting classes.

Yes, it is different. I don't speak to grown people like they are children outside of work. I typically have to dumb down my vocabulary also because it appears none of these people have passed 7th grade English(without copying from their neighbor in class).

Been having trouble moving on since girlfriend ended relationship 3 weeks ago after 2+ years of dating. Before ending it she came over 3 weeks prior to basically give me a chance to work things out and we had a good discussion but then I went back into our routine and didn’t really fight for it or have serious follow up convos that we needed. Now I just have so many regrets that I let her go. I know we still love each other and left on “good” terms but can’t forgive myself for my lack of action.

I had a break up and it was me who messed up. I blame myself all day and constantly have dreams of her. It’s been few months. I try to smile a lot or stay busy but randomly I cry out loud and burst into tears, I think I’m depressed. I also live alone don’t have a lot of friends and I’m 36. Can you please recommend a good therapist (I know you have to try multiple to find the right one)? And what else can I do to bring my self esteem up. Thank you

I grew up in a nuclear family away from extended relatives who were never really close. Parents were either emotionally unavailable or distant. All I've wanted for myself was a big loving family to call my own.. my parents are unaccepting of my sexuality & my partners family is also quite fucked up so she's isn't super close to them either. Honestly this sucks & it feels like I'll never have a huge supportive family I've wanted & craved for.

I literally cannot stomach to be around my in laws any longer. My wife and I are in neither political camp and we pretty much have the perspective that no matter what the outcome is every 2 and 4 years isn’t going really affect our lives all that great. We just have the attitude that “things happen, but why let that affect our daily happiness?” My in laws are retired, bored, and do nothing but share Fox News videos on Bookface and have just become so angry. My wife and I just had our second child, and we have also been dealing with her cervical cancer diagnosis. It has been a stressful year, to say the least. I want to do something nice for her, but money is tight right now because of the cancer treatment costs, and her being on unpaid leave because of the cancer treatments. What is something low cost I can do that will be a nice “couples thing” so we can de-stress, but also make her feel special?
