Is it weird to use the person's name in the customer service chat? I probably use it a max of 3 times, like when I first say hello and when I'm saying goodbye or thanking them. So it's not like I'm yelling their name to get their attention or anything. If the tables were turned I know I would appreciate it, but it just occurred to me that maybe that's kind of weird or rude. Am I just overthinking?

I use their first name and I think it makes it more personal in my opinion. Don't overthink it you are fine.

I think using it creates sympathy and is polite. This is why supervisors demand that employees use the customer's name X times. Sadly that number is usually way too high, which makes conversations feel artificial. Using it once or twice is fine.

Remembering and repeating names is an important tool I use in my CS work, even with chat. I wouldn't overuse it, but especially when disconnecting, it adds a touch of humanity.

I'd say you're overthinking. No, it's not weird. Just do it if it feels right, and if not then don't.
