I recently started working at a firm that does a lot of legal aid. In order to attract more private clients, they want us to go out and do speaking engagements and volunteer work (on our own time). Furthermore, they started asking us to consider doing per diem duty counsel work to bring up our receivables (aka- work as duty counsel and give them our pay). I was so appalled by this comment, I’m beyond livid. I became an associate so I didn’t have to go out and bring in business. (Cont.)

Hi all! I just got a Senior tax associate role in industry ($85k, MCOL; 17% more than I currently make). Enjoyed the people I interviewed with; my only hesitation is that the company itself has had a rough couple of years (healthcare company, had a few bad acquisitions that they’ve since shed off). Their busy season is just January and early February, with their team working until about 7 PM during the week and a few Saturdays. I’m interested, but it’s also my 1st offer; what would you do?

Family law associate. I run a docket of about 40-50 cases and work about 50 hours a week. I currently make about 125K (self-employed, no benefits). Between jury trials for CPS termination cases and the highly adversarial nature of family law, I find this job to be incredibly draining, as I have horrid work/life balance and struggle with constant anxiety.

I recently got an offer with a personal injury firm. 110K, full benefits, for a non-litigation/docket manager role. Thoughts?

Input needed. Received offer from McK as a manager on solutions side. Currently Sr. associate at boutique (generalist). Just received a promotion to engagement manager that I thought I had no shot at. New comp is now slightly higher than McK offer. Am I crazy to question the jump? What other things should I be considering? Exit opps, benefits, advancement, etc. Thinking I should leave to get McK on the resume, but hard to leave money on the table. Is it dumb to take a new role at a lower title but higher total comp? I’m currently an associate product manager at an agency supporting federal clients. I have an exit opportunity as a product analyst at an established healthcare tech company. Current role is about leading a team to build/enhance products. Exit op would be less implementation focused.

What does the future look like in consulting? I am a bit nervous jumping from from "industry side" to the "consulting side".

Traditional 401k vs. Roth 401k?

Context: 25F. New associate at $63k. Also have a Roth IRA, HSA, and HYSA.

Leaning toward Roth 401k due to the expectation I’ll be in a higher tax bracket later, but would love to hear advice from this bowl!
