Was laid off by EY few weeks back, had 60 Days to find an employer and get them to apply H1B for me. Subtracting the h1b app time, roughly had 5 wks to land an offer in this economy. Landed a consulting offer and an offer from a small Bay Area Data firm for a TechCloud Product Manager (choosing this) I was able to exit consulting in 5 weeks, something I was trying for over 1.5 years. What worked? Going away from the FAANG mindset, look at sm/mid sized firms and being open!

I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. Am I overreacting?

Hey Accounting Fam -

Started looking for a job when my company started going south due to COVID about 2 months ago. I’ve been very blessed to have survived 2 rounds of layoffs. Got an offer today that is a 15% increase in base pay. Company is stable and their leading in their field. Should I feel guilty for wanting to leave? I’m thankful my manager has kept me safe so far, and I feel like I owe her, specially since our team is short-staffed now.

Advice and anecdotes welcome.

How do you guys deal with burnout? This job was amazing when I started and the pay is good, but I feel like I’m being ground down a little more every day. I’ve been applying to AE jobs elsewhere but I’m competing with everyone who’s been laid off at this point I’m happy to get a rejection instead of being ghosted by the hiring manager. Any tips on getting out of this mindset? I feel trapped.

We use Deloitte India for a number of parts of our delivery. Recently I have seen some unethical practices that violate labor laws and do not align with Deloitte principles. Say you work at Accenture and are doing OK (haven't been laid off yet and have projects lined up). Also let's say that you have good skills in cloud infrastructure, which is plenty busy right now.

What would motivate you to accept a job offer at a tiny consulting firm (less than 300 people)?

Would a good raise and a promotion to Senior Manager be enough?

There are many risks involved with going to a tiny firm. What would it take for you make the jump and overcome concerns?

Let go recently, but last day isn't until Friday. Have a call with a hiring manager this week when I'm sure I'll be asked why I'm leaving consulting. Should I mention that I was laid off? That's not why I'm looking (started before), but also don't want to appear as though I'm hiding that information as it would eventually come out when I have to report my dates of employment.

Team was laid off. I was moved to a different service line. New service line manager salary is 10-20% higher than my current salary. No performance based raises this year at my firm. My utilization is low as I’m spending time getting caught up. Glad to still have a job but should I bring up a salary adjustment? Current plan is to wait until my utilization is on par with the rest of the team.

Something’s been weighing on my mind. I messed up in a steering committee & tripped infront of the Sr. Client Stakeholders. I made a few other mistakes and was rolled off by my manager (SM) b/c I sucked and it was a higher burn engagement he needed a stronger BA. Now I find out he might’ve been laid off and I can’t help but to think it was my fault. We never really talked after this engagement but I feel like it’s my clumsiness that him fired and it makes me feel guilty and give a me anxiety.

I've been laid off from D. I'm seeking a similar role, "Resource Manager" or "Engagement Staffing Manager". To summarize, the role entails working with business managers to help fill open roles, providing available staff, and forecasts, etc.; and working with practitioners as they near or land on the bench. Do other consulting firms, such as EY, PWC, Accenture, etc. have such positions? If so, what are titles do they have? I'm seeking alternative search terms.
