What tips would you give to someone going into customer service?

Don't let them get under your skin. Some people make it their mission in life to make others miserable; don't give them the satisfaction. Just chalk it up to unreasonable customer expectations and move on

like

You can't make every customer happy, but if you treat them with kindness, you will still be able to respect yourself later.

like

Be patient. Don't take complaints personal because annoyed people often forget that they are dealing with human beings who most of the time have no say in the policies or operation of the company.

Don't show confusion EVER. Upset customers only get more upset when you tell them you don't know how to solve the problem or that you're not sure you can help them.

Use positive language, for example instead of saying "I can't send you the product for 2 days. You have to wait" say "the product will be available within 2 days. I can make sure you receive it right then. Is that okay with you?".

Don't show any type of ignorance or weakness to callers. Some people are pretty rude and they'll pounce on that

Don't

Be ready for some stressful conversations, unreasonable expectations, and overbearing supervisors

Be patient and understanding, cause you're gonna be needing a lot of that in this role

Keep your sense of humor--you're going to need it.

Run! Save yourself!

It's inevitable that you'll come across people determined to make you feel small. Remember that their behavior is a reflection of them, not you.

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
